Clients

Examples of the type of work undertaken by the Company for some of our recent clients are given below. They show how a complete  support service is provided including the creation of the property strategy, detailed space needs analysis, the investment appraisals, decanting plans, in principle and detailed capital applications as well as a number of related bids and associated work.

Northbrook College, Worthing

The principal at Northbrook College, Worthing needed a complete new College Property Strategy based on a detailed space needs analysis. The results indicated a reduction of college area by 30% to around 20,000sqm and the disposal of some of the ‘worst accommodation in the FE sector’.

This task was undertaken by the company in 2007. It was followed by the decanting plans as one of the older annexes was vacated, then the preparation of the complete LSC Application in Principle and Application in Detail for the new campus.

‘D Turner Property Consultancy worked with us from development of the initial Property Strategy document through to completion of the Application in Detail submission. This covered high level planning work and advice on tendering (including OJEU requirements), through to analysis of teaching hours, detailed space requirements, room utilisation and decanting whilst maintaining day to day operations.

The wide ranging experience and awareness of educational issues, including knowledge of funding and regulatory body requirements, was essential to our project.

David has a professional approach, is responsive to requirements, and delivers on a timely and efficient basis.’

Jon Rollings,  Northbrook College  Finance and Resources Director

Bridgwater College

The accommodation on one of the Bridgewater College sites was overcrowded and a new Property Strategy was required.

After a detailed space needs analysis, the preferred option in the Property Strategy was to create two new buildings of around 11,000 sqm on the existing site. Not only did the Company quickly produce the new Property Strategy, but also the subsequent bids for financial support from a number of different agencies.

‘Many thanks for the very rapid production of our Property Strategy and Application in Principle documents. Without your help we would never have managed to meet the tight deadlines imposed upon us. Your knowledge of the sector and attention to detail meant that you knew exactly the right questions to ask.’

Nick Skyrme – Finance Director 2008 – Bridgwater College

WS Atkins PLC

WS Atkins PLC needed the support of an educationalist in the design of a number of projects over the past six years and called upon the specialist knowledge of the Company to help with the space modelling and the production of the complete room schedules. Space planning was based on detailed room survey analysis and a detailed course by course analysis of the proposed curriculum, planned changes and future flexibility requirements.

David has worked with Atkins on three major Further Education projects – City College in Plymouth (formerly Plymouth College of Further Education); Northbrook College in Worthing; and North East Surrey College of Technology in Epsom. Each of these projects involved developments of tens of millions of pounds and David’s in depth knowledge of the Sector proved invaluable to us in developing well considered solutions, both to AiP and AiD Stages.

David has worked with us on both new and refurbishment FE projects using detailed space analysis techniques to derive curriculum models  for many different College departments. His accurate analysis and attention to detail in this work was exemplary and faultless across a number of projects developed over a six year period.

We have always found the work to be delivered on time and to budget – often with very rapid turn around times – and would recommend his skills to any prospective Client.

David Morriss – Studio Head – WS Atkins, Oxford

City College Plymouth

In 2010, City College Plymouth knew that their old Property Strategy based on a complete new build, and a large LSC contribution was no longer possible. It therefore commissioned a new Property Strategy to be produced based on the current levels of affordability and the need to systematically reduce the size of the college estate. This was produced by the Company in a short time so that they can now put it into effect without the need for massive external funding contributions. However, it has been written so that the college is ready to immediately take advantage of any future funding if it becomes available.

‘D Turner Property Consultancy has provided significant support to the college over a number of years regarding our property strategies. David has a wealth of experience in the FE sector, as a result his work is accurate and to the point.

He works to the agreed time scales and his fees represent good value for money in comparison to most others providing support to the sector. His ability to analyse large amounts of data is particularly impressive.’

Gilbert Snook – City College Plymouth Estates Manager
